Could This Be the Answer to an Oil-Free America?

I have never been sold on hybrid cars.  Yes, its a great transitory concept, helping us shift from 12mpg gas-guzzlers to 40mpg economy vehicles, but at the end of the day, they still require oil.  And as I’ve stated before, our post-World War II obsession with suburbia has put us at a point of no return.  Bikes, public transportation and walking are city concepts.  With millions living in suburban settings, cars are, in fact, a necessity for these families.

So, are electric cars the future? According to Shai Agassi, they are. But they must be convenient and affordable.  “It’s electric cars or bust if we want to impact emissions. His company, Better Place, has a radical plan to take entire countries oil-free by 2020″ (ted.com).
